What does "DC - Unlocker 2 Client" do when "unlocking"?

I successfully unlocked the MC8755 HSDPA WWAN card of my Lenovo laptop, but I was wondering, what "DC - Unlocker 2 Client" actually did Did it replace the firmware of the WWAN card? According to HSDPA management utility under Windows, at least the firmware version has not changed. Or did it somehow patch the firmware? Should I avoiding installing the original firmware back(it's available under Lenovo support site)?

Unlock enables you to use any provider sim with your device. Yes, you can change firmware . It will not lock back.
