  • DC-Unlocker through VMware Fusion

    Hello folks

My main PC died (motherboard), and at the moment all I have available to me is an imac. Its fully capable of running windows 7 in a vmware fusion virtual machine. Can I use DC-Unlocker this way, or should I bootcamp it and put a seperate windows 7 installtion (or XP) for dc-unlocker?

I've already triggered one "dont run PSAS/QMAT" event and do not wish to trigger another. I'm wondering if the vmware fusions "NAT" will trip the other one I have seen (network sniffer - forgot its name)

    Cheers

DC-Unlocker is based on windows only. Sorry, but we do not have information if it will work on Mac or how to make it working.
It would be the best if you use DC-Unlocker on windows.

Ok then in which case I'll use boot camp

Since newer macs appear like a regular pc to windows (running intel chips and chipsets), bootcamp allows windows to be installed natively, negating the need for a virtual machine. The machine boots windows as if it were a regular PC, so thats what I'll do to avoid a lockout from the server.

I didnt want to use bootcamp if I could get away with it, but sounds like I should make a 20gb partition for it.

Cheers and thanks for the help

        You are welcome.
You should share information in public if you managed to work DC-Unlocker on Mac and how did you do it.
        Thanks.

Sure - I'll be happy to test both vmware fusion and bootcamp. I assume an "access denied" will pop up if I check server credit while an offending program is running, such as a net sniffer or PSAS, so I'll try in fusion first, then get you to check my account (vk2fro) for any offences.

If thats fine, then we can assume those with macs can use a virtual machine.

If I get an offence, we'll try bootcamp, (which for all intents and purposes, is like installing windows on a regular pc), and check again for offences.

I believe bootcamp is the best bet though.

I'll test vmware in a little while after I finish restoring my documents to the imac

IF it works in fusion, I will be happy to supply a tutorial; and you guys can make some more cash on credits, coz mac users can use your unlocker to unlock their dongles! Some mac guys dont want to dirty up their machines with a windows partition, but would happily run a vm for the off chance they need windows

            Well it works under vmware!

I made several "calls" to the server to check my credit and one unsuccessful unlock (device drivers weren't installed correctly for the data card I was unlocking in the windows virtual machine), and then one successful unlock. I did not get blocked by the server so it appears that VMware fusions nat does not trigger the servers anti net sniffer detection.

            Heres how its done.

            1. Set up a virtual machine in VMware fusion and install windows (I used windows 7 ultimate from my defunct PC). Other than adjusting the hard drive size to 20Gb, I made no other changes to the VM settings.
            2. Get all the windows updates (probably not necessary, but I do it out of habit)
            3. Install the vmware tools (makes life heaps easier)
            4. Install DC-Unlocker
            5. Plug in your data card. When prompted by vmware, tell it you'd like to connect it to windows all the time.
            6. Copy the contents of the data cards CD drive (it will be in CD drive mode) to the windows desktop. Eject the data card with the windows eject tool in the tray (green arrow over usb plug icon)
            7. Install the software from your data card, then shut down the virtual machine, quit vmware.
            8. Unplug your data card, insert a foreign sim, and replug your data card. Mac OS will detect it, and mount the device. Install the software for it for OS X.
            9. Restart your mac if it doesnt change out of CD mode into data card mode.
            10. When os X comes back up it will detect a new network interface (that of your data card)
            11. Start your virtual machine. Tell vmware (either by the prompts or the hardware control bar) to connect the data card to windows all the time
            12. Windows will install the drivers for your data cards "data card" mode.
            13. Wait several minutes for the drivers to finish installing
            14. Run DC-Unlocker and unlock your device!

            Requirements:
An Intel mac that can run vmware, with out the data card software installed.
            VMware fusion - I used version 4.1.1
A data card that is compatible with both windows and mac os x
            A bit of patience

My plesure Gintas - Happy new year everyone!

This also works under boot camp and is less fiddly, as the boot camp is like running windows on a normal pc, not in a virtual machine.

Just a note: it also works under VirtualBox.

I just installed Win7 Professional in a VirtualBox VM just to run dc-unlocker (I only have Macs, and needed to unlock a Huawei E5), and it worked fine. Overall the process is similar to that described for VMware: connect the USB device to the virtual machine, run dc-unlocker, and voila!
