  • activating voice calling for Huawei E169 (3 UK version)

    Hi,

    I have two E169s here.

    One is a Vodafone K3520, which identifies as E169, and supports voice calls.

    The other is a E169 from 3 UK, which also identifies as E169, but when I try to place a voice call it fails immediately and Mobile Partner says "FAILED".

    The Hardware version of both devices is CD57TCPU and both have the same firmware version (11.314.21.31.00) installed.

    I think there must be some setting in the nonvolatile memory, where voice capability is disabled for the 3-version. Unfortunately dumping any data from the E169 with QMAT fails.

    Does anybody have an idea how to access or download the nonvolatile memory or even how to enable the voice capability?

    greetings

    I know that "E169 Client Software UTPSB030D01SP04C03 for WinXP&2K&Vista (9968 KB) 20-Jun-2008" huawei dashboard support voice feature.
    Or you can edit (with an text editor) "PluginsConfig.xml" file from "Mobile Partner" folder, and simply add this row:

    <item name="CallPlugin" clsid="8FC7A17B-EA76-4e6e-872D-9AAC222C8B03"/>
    <item name="CallUIPlugin" clsid="58A0343A-93DB-4ea2-92B4-C51589629381"/>
    <item name="CallLogUIPlugin" clsid="1FCAC0FF-9E87-450f-8258-1155D7696571"/>

    and save file. This enable voice feature, but not work on all Huwi models.
    Software management branded from network operator don't have voice feature.

      Other file modify that you can try
      File "SysSetting.xml" in Mobile Partner folder, edit and save it with:

      <callui>
      <calltrans>1</calltrans>
      <incoming>1</incoming>
      <sound>1</sound>

      Other Plug-in that you can easily added into your Mobile Partner:
      Simply copy and paste into "PluginsConfig.xml" file.

      <item name="NetInfoRecordUIPlugin" clsid="27A315A2-D587-498a-9FC5-7CF2738679DF"/>
      <item name="GpsPlugin" clsid="385BDF98-9AA3-4121-9FBB-CACB1CD9608V"/>
      <item name="DMUIPlugin" clsid="EB7C34BA-E88D-40fd-AEE9-9D6C4114A45E"/>
      <item name="STKPlugin" clsid="BB06C1A5-D060-413d-9F40-0226F2BEE443"/>
      <item name="CBSSettingPlugin" clsid="EA0D3860-5440-4f78-B55C-3BA54D6F2ADD"/>
      <item name="MMSUIPlugin" clsid="8A8F7C8C-B6DE-41cb-9228-D78C95312E87"/>
      <item name="MMSPreviewUIPlugin" clsid="35C1A526-2266-48C5-918F-94E1B65F7BA2"/>

        Thanks, but Mobile Partner is not the problem. The call plugin of Mobile Partner is definitely activated. However the E169 from 3 always returns "FAILED" when I try to call, while the other one establishes calls flawlessly. I tried the same voice-capable SIM card in both devices.
        Also after disassembling both E169 I found out that their hardware revision is identical.
        This is definitely a firmware issue.

            Found a little utility to upgrade E169 from 3.6Mbps to 7.2Mbps.
            Seem that can upgrade only E169 Tre ITA, not E169 Three UK.
            There is a detection device before upgrade

                It's not a problem of Mobile Partner version!.
                The problem is in the usb modem dongle.
                Seem that this voice-calling feature is a factory-requested from network operator before being launched on the market
