  • O2 E160 playing hard to get?

I have an E160 that I have only ever used to run O2's connection manager to find WiFi hotspots. Plenty in London!

Not so here overseas where I can't use O2 anyway and I need to fit a local SIM. So it is time to unlock..

The DC-unlocker client cannot find the modem in either my netbook or my desktop. WinXP device manager says that there is a Huawei modem in the modem branch and in the port branch on the desktop. The client says that the ports are both COM1 and it cannot find the card.

The netbook client can't find it either but says the ports are sComboBox2 and sComboBox3 and it doesn't show either a modem or ports branch.

The flash storage shows as a CD in both machines.
The O2 connection mamager is not running.
    Where to next?

    TIA.

Are the drivers installed? Do you use autodetect function indc-unlocker software? Select your modem manufacturer and model leave autodetect.

Yes, I did and it worked, thanks!

BUT I wanted to illustrate the message I then got so I plugged it back in. Still did not put in the SIM. NO DETECTION again ?????

Finally got it after unplugging and re-inserting the device whilst the XP hardware device manager was running. I could see it configure and attach to COM4, then closing and re-opening the client showed it correctly. Tricky!

Here is what it says (serial # and IMEI munged):
        DC - Unlocker 2 Client 1.00.0309

        Detecting card :

        selection :
        manufacturer - Huawei datacards
        model - Auto detect

        Found modem : E160
        Model : Huawei E160/E160G/E160X
        IMEI : 3547xxxxxxxxxxx
        Firmware : 11.608.02.01.00
        Dashboard version : O2-Connection_Manager_3.4.R1(98)_Mac_11.202.08.00.03
        Serial NR. : DK5TABxxxxxxxxx
        SIM Lock status : unlocked
Wrong codes entered : 0 (unlock attempts left : 10)

That looks like it was never locked. Can this be true when they sell for less than 20GBP?

Probably I need to clear the flash data that installs the O2 connection software but that should be easy to save (for future visits to UK) and clear.

        Thanks for the help,
        Rod/
