  • Huawei E160 Card Not Found Error

    Hi,

I have an O2 branded Huawei E160 USB modem stick and an iPhone SIM which, I am told, will give me 12 months free O2 broadband access.

I can't get it to work and the (private) seller is useless and not able to tell me how to do this.

I've now come to believe that I need to unlock the E160 so it will accept the iPhone SIM. I downloaded the latest DC-Unlocker Client software but no matter whether I use 'Auto detect' or I select the entry for Huawei E160 and try all available COM port combinations, I just get a 'card not found' message.

It's weird as the O2 connection manager detects the modem and so does Mobile Partner.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!!

    Update - still need help..

    Ok,
USB modem now being detected by DC-Unlocker.
I found out it is already unlocked but I read somewhere I need to upgrade the firmware to get this to work.
    My current firmware is 11.608.02.01.00
I have bought credits and obtained a firmware upgrade code but now I can't seem to work out what I need to do with it to be able to upgrade the firmware.
I must be having a 'dopey' day.
    Help would be much appreciated

Were you detecting modem with sim inserted or without sim? If with sim, detect again without sim. Only then you will see real lock status. Firmware updating is not necesarry. It is needed only if you have problems with your modem. You need firmware upgrade code only when firmware upgrade ask for after you start it. But you need to have firmware file for your modem.

        IPhone UK?

The e160 02-UK is SIM unlocked to all networks but SW locked to o2, once you have burnt the generic Mobile Connect SW available from Huawei free of charge you can use any SIM

The problem you will have is to do with the APN which is different for IPhone pre 3.0 IphonePAYG and IPhone 3.0+ and other data devices

Go in to the settings menu on my iPhone and select General > Network > Cellular Data Network. Change the Cellular Data APN to payandgo.o2.co.uk. Leave username and password as is. Change the MMS APN to payandgo.o2.co.uk. Reboot the device for settings to take effect.

BTW There is a rumour that o2 keep a record of the Iphone PAYG IMEI that was supplied with the o2 PAYG 12 month free data access and will disable the free internet if the SIM is used with a different IMEI
