  • Huawei E5830 - using in Australia

    Hi
I have just bought the above MIFI device on the Three Network and am in the UK. I am going to Australia for a month in June and wanted to use my device when I am there.

I see that it is possible to unlock it - but before I did that I was just wondering if I buy a new Three sim card when I arrive in Australia would that work without me unlocking the device - ie as its on Three here in the UK, will it also work with an Australian Three sim?

If I did unlock it now, does anyone know if it would work with the other Australian networks such as Telstra or Optus?

    Many thanks

No, a 3 sim card from 3 Australia will not work, been there done that.

You need to unlock the modem.

Just get a modem on a pre paid plan when you get to OZ.

They're as cheap as chips and prepaid plans give you value in Oz.

After unlock your modem will work with any provider sim.

            Hi,

Modem in australia will work with 3, Optus and Vodafone they work on 2100MHz band

Modem will work with Telstra NextG if it has the 850MHz band

So check the specs on the box or UK 3 site.

              Hi,

Previous post should have HSDPA/UMTS after MHz, like below, just so people don't mistake fast HSDPA/UMTS for the slower GSM/GPRS/EDGE network specs

Modem in australia will work with 3, Optus and Vodafone they work on 2100MHz band HSDPA/UMTS

Modem will work with Telstra NextG if it has the 850MHz band HSDPA/UMTS

So check the specs on the box or UK 3 site.
