  • Huawei E5830 - how do I know it's unlocked?

Hi - bought a UK PAYG Mifi from 3Mobile and was daft enough to pay them £15 to unlock it as they said it would still be covered by their warranty if they did it themselves.

Trouble is they've sent it back and it still only appears to work with the 3 sim it came with. I bought a Vodafone PAYG dongle just to get another broadband SIM with credit but it won't connect (definitely get a strong Vodafone signal here).

Then I thought I'd try using the software that came with the E5830 to change the APN settings. Still no joy.

Am I doing something wrong or have they shafted me?

Wish I'd come to this site 1st! If I'd used DC-unlocker would it have immediately connected when I put the Vodafone sim card in?

If it is still locked how can I prove it to 3mobile - (then I could get my £15 back and spend it on DC unlocker instead!!)

To be sure device is locked or unlocked you can detect it with dc-unlocker. Detect it with not original sim inserted. Then you will see the lock status and will know if it is unlocked for sure.

Thanks for the prompt response. There is one small problem though. I just downloaded your software only to realise it is Windows only. I am using a Mac. Is there any way of unlocking this thing on a Mac?

        Dc-unlocker works only on Windows.

          Vodafone problem with unlocked E5830

stennystenny, I successfully unlocked my E5830 with dc-unlocker, but I still can't connect using a Vodafone SIM. I don't know why yet.

You need to enter your new provider connection settings to connection software or web panel.
