I just returned from the hardest brick i have ever done. i managed to make it so the phone wouldnt boot it would bootloop twice and go to erecovery and fail to restore. i tried restoring the phone in erecovery and that for some reason didnt work BUT it triggered the FRP lock and now i couldnt try flashing any images to fix the problem but i thought i luckily had twrp already flashed so i then tried flashing the stock img's extracted from the update.app that made it worse...the screen went completely black and wouldnt do shit. i couldnt get it into recovery, i couldnt use the 3 button combo with dload folder...couldnt do anything.
so the computer recognized it in bootloader mode but i couldnt flash a single thing as it would say i didnt have permission to or something like that even though it was unlocked but locked frp i was about to give up and put my sim card back in my nexus 5x as no matter what i did i couldnt get the screen to even turn on... and when i say it wouldnt turn on i mean not even flicker. without knowing any better you would think the lcd went out but i knew it didnt as it worked to the moment i clicked reboot in recovery after flashing the images.
Well i found a post on the mate 9 xda-dev sub-forum about someone who did the same thing and fixed it with dc-phoenix but costed him 18$, i decided 18 was well worth it, if it meant i had a working phone. and sure enough 5 minutes after successfully paying the phone was working(btw horrible experience trying to pay... requiring a verified paypal was a nuisance and had to get a family member to lend me there paypal)
Now i have no idea how dc-phoenix can flash images when adb couldnt...but it works. if your out of options i would 100% say try it as 18$ is much better than a new phone.
