  • Huawei E156G from ‘three’ in the UK

    Hi,

I have the Huawei E156G from ‘three’ in the UK. I have just arrived in South Africa and my friend has a GSmart MD800 running with a VODACOM sim. I want to just buy a sim and not the MD800. So what do I need to do:

    1. Use DC-Unlocker and 4 credits to unlock the modem
    2. Un-install the 3 dashboard?
    3. Download a ‘universal’ dashboard? Which one?
    4. Buy VODACOM sim
    5. Setup the hardware and get going? Would I have to change any settings?
    6. Success?
    7. When I get back to the UK and want to use my ‘three’ sim will it work in the new ‘universal’ setup or will I have to reverse the process?

I have watched the video on YouTube and it looks simple enough. What are the risks along the way?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Yes, you need to unlock it using dc-unlocker.
Leave the 3 dashboard and install unbranded dashboard. Use unbranded software for connection. Here you can download it for huawei modem: http://www.dc-unlocker.com/downloads...mised_managers
You will need to enter new provider conenction settings to not customized software. for connection settings you can check here: http://franson.com/forum/topic.asp?T...earchTerms=apn
You will be able to use three sim with unbranded dashboard also.

      Detecting card :

      selection :
      manufacturer - Huawei datacards

If you can not detect modem you should check the fallowing:
Check, if the drivers are installed
Check, if the connection software for this modem is closed and modem is not connected to internet
Check, if you use autodetect function in dc-unlocker software
Check, if you use latest dc-unlocker software version.

          Success

Thanks - got it all working... My VODACOM chip now works in SA.

I also have a UK VODAFONE chip in my Blackberry that I want to try and connect.

I tried importing the 'Vodafone connect box' settings into Mobile Partner, but it would connect.

Does anyone know what settings in Mobile Partner will work with a UK VODAFONE chip in SA - it is picking up the VODACAM network.

          Thanks
          Mike

Thanks - I tried them and it didn't work. Also it doesn't list the Access Number - I don't know if this caused it to fail as I just used the default. When would you use a Dynamic APN by the way?

If it does not list Access Number, means you do not need it. You can try to check at provider for settings also.
