  • Huawei E5830 unlocking problems - please help

    I have a 3-UK branded Huawei E5830 3G modem. I have purchased 15 credits but DC-Unlock does not work.

It detects the modem OK and starts the unlocking process but stops at about 40% of the "Boot download mode..." process with "Error code 24, Unlock failed" and leaves the dongle frozen on. I need to remove the battery to reset it. I have tried lots of times with the same result. Please help!

    Thank you,
    Poundbury.

OK. Fixed this myself by downgrading the dc-unlock software to version: 1.00.0376

May be this will help someone else?

    Regards,
    Poundbury.

I don't know if you really successfully unlocked for downgrade dc-unlocker version.
I know that dc-unlocker during unlock phase E5830's modem/router can have recognition difficulty due to other network cards into PC.
There are other thread that speek of this problem

        Hi Fakiro,

I really did successfully unlock with version 1.00.0376. I have also flashed to non-branded firmware as well so I am now the proud owner of an unlocked and unbranded E5830!

I tried manay, many times with the latest version of the software but it always failed. Version 1.00.0376 worked perfectly first time.

        Regards,
        Poundbury.

I downloaded and installed the latest version of DC-unlocker (running Windows XP). DC-unlocker just would not see my 3 'Huawei Wireless Modem' (that's what it says on the sticker inside the modem.

I spotted Poundbury's post and installed DC-unlocker 1.00.0376 on my other laptop which runs Windows Vista. DC-Unblocker returns the following info when I connected it:

            DC - Unlocker 2 Client 1.00.0376

            Detecting card :

            selection :
            manufacturer - Novatel
            model - Expedite EU870D Mini
            application port - COM3
            diagnostic port - COM4

Found modem : Expedite EU870D MiniCard
            Model : Expedite EU870D Mini
            IMEI : xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
            Firmware : 10.9.0102.0-00
            SIM Lock status : unlocked

DC-unlocker reports that it's unlocked. I've not unlocked it yet - it says this when the 3 card is inserted, when there's no card inserted and when I insert an O2 PAYG SIM.

I'm not sure what to do / try next so any pointers are most appreciated.

My previous posting was done late last night; I was tired and decided to call it quits for the day.

This morning I restarted the laptop and went into the device manager and disabled things (this laptop has a built-in HSPDA SIM slot) that I thought might be causing some kind of 'conflict'.

I started DC-unlocker and it reported the following:

              DC - Unlocker 2 Client 1.00.0509

              Detecting card :

              selection :
              manufacturer - Huawei modems
              model - Auto detect (recommended)

              Found modem : E5830
              Model : Huawei E5830/E583x
              IMEI : 354103031418852
              Firmware : 666.11.81.07.106
              Dashboard version : UTPS11.302.04.08.156
              Serial NR. : Y84CAC1050101353
SIM Lock status : Locked (Card Lock)

Good news... it was reporting my modem as a 'Huawei E5830'. I then clicked on 'unlocking' and DC-unlocker started to do it's thing.

Then after a short while it came back with 'Error code 21' or similar. I then clicked on the big 'find' button for DC-unlocker to re-detect my modem. No luck at all. I tried various settings (I can't remember each step that I took).

If I remember correctly I then un-installed DC-unlocker and rebooted the laptop. I then installed DC-unlocker 1.00.0376 (older version - the same one that Fakiro talked about: "I tried manay, many times with the latest version of the software but it always failed. Version 1.00.0376 worked perfectly first time.")

I clicked the big 'search button again' and the good news is DC-unlocker saw my modem:

              DC - Unlocker 2 Client 1.00.0376

              Detecting card :

              selection :
              manufacturer - Huawei datacards
              model - Auto detect

              Found modem : E5830
              Model : Huawei E5830/E583x
              IMEI : 354103031418852
              Firmware : 666.11.81.07.106
              Dashboard version : UTPS11.302.04.08.156
              Serial NR. : Y84CAC1050101353
              SIM Lock status : unlocked

The results say the modem is 'unlocked'. I'm hoping this is the case - remember I previously received an 'Error code 21' error message.

I suppose the way to test this is to insert another SIM like O2 and configure it. Does anyone know if any O2 PAYG SIM will work? Would it have to be enabled for data? Could I take the SIM out of my iPhone and insert it in here or is the iPhone SIM locked to the iPhone?

Try to detect again with no sim card inserted using latest version of dc-unlocker. Only then will see real lock status.
Yes, to test it you need to insert other provider sim card. If mdoem accept sim card, means it is unlocked for sure.

I just cannot find the way to make this modem get recognized as modem... just the application interface.

Tried to flash it... but got "card not found"
