  • Telus E182E with Rogers sim card: Invalid SIM/USIM after unlock

    Hi,

I live in Canada, and have a SIM card that I use in my iPhone. I want to use this sim card (and various others that I buy when travelling) in an E182E.

I just bought the E182E and unlocked it:

    Found modem : E182E
    Model : Huawei E182
    IMEI : 3597***********
    Firmware : 11.823.03.23.464
    Dashboard version : UTPS13.001.08.01.464_MAC13.305.06.00.464
    Serial NR. : D04*************
Voice feature : not supported in current firmware
    SIM Lock status : unlocked
Wrong codes entered : 0 (unlock attempts left : 10)

When I try to run the Telus "Mobile Internet Key" software, or the unbranded "Mobile Partner" software from http://www.dc-unlocker.com/downloads/get/LihV26NW I get the error message:

"The SIM/USIM card has not been detected or is invalid"

I've never used a Telus card in this device.

Is this device not going to work for me?

    Thanks.

    M.

Are you sure there is no sim indserted at time when you detect? Try to detect with no sim inserted. Only then you will see real lock status.

I guess you are wondering whether the unlock worked?

Yes, I did previously unlock, the process completed "unlock successful" or similar.

I only ran the dc-unlocker again because the dashboard software gives me the invalid sim error. I didn't think to run it again without a sim card in.

I haven't checked whether my dc-unlocker credits were debited.

When I get home I'll try these both.

Would I be better off on a ZTE 668 than Huawei E182E? The E182E seems new so not many anecdotes or votes. Further a friend questioned how well it will work on a Mac, and I read that they can get hot. Perhaps these issues were fixed?

The E182E seems to be a later generation of HSPDA whereas the 668 is an extension of the older one. Both max at 21mbps. Correct?

      Thanks, M.

Could you copy here what is detected when you detect modem with no sim inserted?

(blush) Ok! It works! Thank you!

When I got home last night I realised that the E182E doesn't make sure you insert the sim card correctly. And, when I tried it again I realised that I hadn't - it was in the wrong way around

          Thanks again.

Still, I wonder whether I should have bought the MF668 instead of the E182E.

          Any thoughts?

          Best, M.
