  • Huawei E585 - SMS Webpanel bug?

Hello, the E585 that I have works normally, every feature, except one. Late last night, the ability to access the SMS area in the webpanel stopped.

The SMS panel will pop up for about 1 second, then a screen refresh to the front page.

Tested on a Linux PC, Windows XP and Windows 7, IE and Firefox. Same behaviour.

Has anyone seen a similar bug?

Is there access to Firmware or a Dashboard install that I can try to reset the device properly?

Unfortunately, the only reason I purchased the E585 and unlocked it, was so that I can purchase credit and buy data plans, through SMS.

OK, well, it seems to be a SIM\Lock\Unlock\Bug problem.

Last night, after using DC-Unlocker to unlock the E585 Modem. I could access the SMS webpage and send\receive SMS messages using a different access provider (not Three), but once I rebooted the E585..

The SMS webpage is now only accessible with a 3\Three SIM. Attempts to access it with another SIM refresh to the main webpage menu. During the brief time at the SMS Menu, you can see the amount of SMS messages that are in each folder etc. I have taken the other SIM out to empty all folders and address book, just to be sure. The behaviour is still the same.

Online access and Modem use works otherwise. Even on the non SMS working SIM, the incoming SMS messages are listed correctly and updated on the small screen, as well the menu.

    Very puzzling.

OK, well, the dashboard software seems to be descriminating against certain SIM cards.

The E585 has been unlocked by DC-Unlocker

      ---

(Three/3 SIM card numbers typically start with 083)

My Three/3 Network SIM cards have access to the SMS dashboard and can send and receive SMS, a user can also delete any content etc. Folder structure is visible and can be used.

I have tested this with 3 different Three\3 SIM cards, the behaviour is the same. The SMS webpanel can be accessed and is operational.

All 3 SIM cards appear with +353(country code for Ireland)(drop a zero at the start of the mobile phone number)(then the number itself)83*******

      ---

(Meteor SIM card numbers typically start with 085)

The SIM that is not allowed access to the SMS webpanel is on the Meteor network, the number in the webpanel does not appear with +353 or drop a zero, the full SIM number appears.

      085*******

The SMS webpanel can be clicked on.. and appears for about a second, then refreshes to the main Home page webpanel.

SMS *can* be sent to the SIM, the count of the inbox can be seen on the OLED screen and when the SMS webpanel flashes for the second that you click on it.

The SMS webpanel is not accessible but SMS services are operational and do appear to behave normally.

      ---

Both the Three\3 and the Meteor SIM cards have full 'normal' Data services access.

I have the same problem trying to read SMS. Im not sure if its because Ive unlocked my E585 because I didnt ever try reading SMS before (unlocking was pretty much the 1st thing I did)

I know it was only 3 days ago but did you get this problem sorted?

Problem is still there for me sadly. I could access the SMS webpanel with a 3rd party SIM, and send/receive, *JUST AFTER UNLOCKING*, but the panel was not accessible when I rebooted the modem later that evening.

Lloyd, just to make things clear..

Can you read/write/send SMS with the '3' SIM?

Can you read/write/send SMS with a 3rd party SIM?

There seems to be a Network lock on the SMS webpanel.

          ---

I can receive SMS text messages on the 3rd party SIM and the number of text files waiting in my inbox will be shown on the small OLED screen.

When I click on the SMS panel button, it shows very very briefly, maybe 1 second, with the SMS messages showing coreectly, waiting in their folders. The panel then refreshes to the front page.

This does not happen with my 3 SIMs (3 of them..)

Other than that, the modem works fine for data access.

My problem is, I need to top up through SMS..

If I remove the 3rd party SIM to a phone or another dongle, I can read and manipulate the SMS messages normally. They are there to read.

Are dc-unlocker aware of this problem with 3rd party SIM cards? ..trying to use the SMS panel in unlocked E585's?

I'm having the same problem. I have an unlocked E585, and no matter what web browser I use I can't get in to view any of the SMS messages, it just returns me to the main menu.

I think the device has downloaded the messages to its own memory, so I can't even check them with a phone.

Fortunately this is a SIM I use only for data, so the SMS will just be automatically generated ones from my provider. Still, i'd like to get them, and stop the icon blinking.

I wonder if there's a newer firmware or something that might fix it. Then again I don't know how to unlock it, as I bought it like this, made for 3 in the UK but unlocked and sold privately in New Zealand.

              Hey commando,

The good news.. I no longer have this problem.

The bad news.. I don't know how it got 'fixed'. I started using a third party SIM and one day I clicked on the SMS folder and it just worked.

I do remember resetting the 3G Modem for an extended period of time, out of frustration. Pressing the reset button with a paperclip..

That's good news Where's the reset button? You don't need to unlock it again afterwards do you?

Take off the back cover, it is to the side of the power switch.

You shouldn't have to unlock it again. But.. it will reset the Wifi key and SSID to the default, which is (typically) provided to you on the inside back cover, on a silver coloured rectangular sticker.
