  • Basic questions and Huawei e1820

    Hello people,

appoligise if this got posted twice, I couldn't find the previous one.
Looking at this site thus far, I think it is great and so I decided to register as I'd like to ask some questions of my own, do bear with me please.

I have just bought an Huawei E1820 modem, and I do believe that it is unlocked as i used it on quite a few networks we have here.

and here is the first question:
    1. Is there a driver or program that will allow me to switch the USB mode of the modem, so that if I plug it in to any pc, I could just install the drivers and not the software that gets installed from the device to pc?
    2. I have read some of the threads on this forum and came across the mobile partner version 16. I have successfully flashed it to the device since I wanted to use the device for calling as well.
I have tried to call the number whilst connected and it rings however I am unable to hear anything.
    A. After doing some more reading, I understand that the firmware must be voice enabled and that one must buy credits for using voice is this correct?
    b. Does my modem even support voice at all?
    C. How Would one actually setup the voice calling? I.e. looking at the options in the program, there aren't any options for microphone etc etc?
    3. I've read on wikipedia, that firmware could be locked to certain networks. Does the fiwmare on this site have any ristrictions like that? I.e. If I updated to a later version of the firwmare, would I then need to buy credits to unlock the device again?

Again, sorry for all the really basic questions. It's my first time with this device and the site, and I would really appreciate your answers/input.

    Cheers,

Hi, E1820..as E182E, if you want only to force hardware to be recognized and to switch the modem (to go from virtual cd-rom to modem), then you can use http://rapidshare.com/files/36281421...tup_Switch.rar.
Actually, seem that there aren't firmware version for E1820/E182E voice capable,....
You can flash the dashboard, but voice function still unusable.
When a firmware voice-capable was avaiable then your dongle can do voice-calling.

      Hi Fakiro,
Thanks for your post and information.

I have successfully used the switch and have a few questions:
      1. I find that if I have to restart the pc, or unplug the modem I then have to run the switch, and then install drivers one by one for each device that the hardware dialog comes up for, is there a way to have it installed so that when I reconnect the modem again, it wont ask me to install the drivers?
      2. Is there a way to disable the virtual cd-rom permanently so that I could just use the device as a modem and forget about the software also not having to use the switch?

      Thanks in advance,

      Regards,

You can try to use this:

        Huawei Universal Ultimate Dashboard™ WinUTPS16.001.06.01.500
This mobile partner solve your detection problem.
To disable the virtual cd-rom just enter AT command "AT^U2DIAG=256" without "", modem must answer with "ok".
Modem must safely-remove when unplug from usb.
To enable virtual cd-rom run AT command "AT^U2DIAG=268" if don't run try 255

          Hi Fakiro,

As always, thanks again for the reply, and my results are as follows:
          1. I've successfully flashed the device with the link that you had given me in the previous post.
          2. I've uninstalled the version I had previously, and installed the version which got flashed to the device.
          3. Not sure where to enter the necessary command to disable the virtual cd-rom, I went in to tools, USSD and enter the command that you posted.
          4. After clicking on send, I got the message that it failed.
What I'd like to ask is, Did I enter the command in the right place, by going to tools then USSD?
If no, I'd really be greatful if you could tell me where to enter the command, as it is my first time with this software when it comes to entering commands.

Again, sorry for the basic questions, And thanks much for the replies.

          Regards,

AT command you can run directly via dc-unlocker software (in the white window, once your modem is correctly detected), or via Hyperteminal, or putty, or other

              Hi Fakiro,

Thanks so much for the information! I'm really happy its working as the install of the mobile partner was quite annoying as I use different pc's.

It works just the way I want it to now, thanks to you!

If you don't mind, can you please answer just a few more questions please?

              1. I noticed, after entering the command to disable the virtual cd-rom, that in device manager, there no more appears under network adapters:
huawei mobile 3g connect card. is this normal?
              2. Then under portable devices, there appears a drive letter, I presume this is for the memory card?
              3. If I put in another SIM-card, and forgot to disable the PIN code, is there also a command for disabling the pin-code as well?

Your reply would really be appreciated, and I'm positive this is the last of my questions.
Thanks for bearing with me thus far.

                1. yes
                2. yes
                3. for the pin code request:
AT+CPIN="0000" <ENTER> (replace 0000 with your PIN code)

To check if the PIN code is enabled (PIN status) by entering the following AT command: AT+CPIN?

You can receive one of the following answers:

+CPIN: SIM PIN (you need to enter the PIN code to enable the card)
+CPIN: READY (the PIN is entered and the card is registered to the network)
To enter the PIN code, the following command can be used: AT+CIN=xxxx (where xxxx is the PIN code of your SIM card)
