If you can not detect you should check the fallowing:
Check, if the drivers are installed
Check, if the phone software is closed
Check, if you use autodetect function in dc-unlocker software
Check, if you use latest dc-unlocker software version.

Ok i tried to unlock my phone i was told that the phone is not supported, i need a modem. Now what does that mean im kinda new to this

I think you detect as huawei modems. Select huawei phones when detecting it and everything should be ok.
