    Why do you think it is locked? What message do you receive when try to use it with different provider sim cards?

            I have an identical problem: live in Sydney, have an Ideos 8150 locked to Virgin Mobile. The Virgin company has agreed to unlock it as far back as January, but they were unable to provide an unlock code which was acceptable by the phone. Same message comes up about "network subnet".

            With a non-Virgin SIM card, after we entered the unlock code, we were able to get to the Android home screen. However, the phone did not connect to the other carrier (Vodafone, despite having the correct APN numbers for Voda.

            Please keep us posted about the solution. I'm at the point of purchasing some credits. Do they expire ? I don't normally have the phone with me, because I purchased it as a gift to someone else. So, I'm setting up things in advance, before I go visit the person who has the phone.

            Regards,

            O'Limpy

                I think i am having the same issue with my phone. It is locked to the Crazy John/Vodaphone network. It is reading as unlocked but i get no connectivity when i use an optus sim card in it. I can access the phone without an issue just cant access the internet or make calls. A possible issue i have noticed is when it went to unlock the phone it read as network locked. If this was the case i would have bought a virgin phone and used my optus sim in it as they use the same network. On some investigation i have found both these companies, CJ's and Virgin use a carrier locking system requireing you to have their branded sim cards to make the phones work. Im unsure if this makes a difference but hopefully it helps you to work out a fix. Any workaround would be very appreciated i really do not want to be stuck on the vodaphone network.

                      Hi guys, may be the same issue here. Phone locked to Virgin. Unlocked fine and message lock disappeared. Inserted Optus sim and can make calls and send sms no problem. But cannot find optus as data supplier (settings>wireless and nets>mobile nets>network operators>search networks). All networks are found EXCEPT optus.

                      - virgin uses the optus network
                      - sim has data access
                      - under "settings>about phone' it is still described as 'virgin mobile'

                      Grateful for any suggestions of fixes. Thanks.

                        Just in case it helps anyone - I just went through this. Same deal, phone not complaining about being locked, and I can make calls, but couldnt get internet access.

                        The fix was to define the right APNs in the phone. I deleted the Virgin ones then, instead of using Optus APN definitions I found on the internet, I put the Optus SIM in an Optus phone and copied the ones that it had, which were:

                        Name=Optus Preconnect ( Main APN )
                        APN=preconnect
                        MCC=505
                        MNC=02
                        APN type=default

                        Name=Optus MMS
                        APN=mms
                        MMSC-http://mmsc.optus.com.au:8002/
                        MMS proxy=61.88.190.10
                        MMS port=8070
                        MCC=505
                        MNC=02
                        APN type=mms

                        Everything not shown is left unset. In particular, make sure the Authentication Type is either unset or set to None. I initially had it set to PAP (per APNs I found on the net), but this didn't seem to work.

                        With the above, my Virgin U8150 now seems to work fine for calls and 3G with an Optus prepaid SIM. It still reports the Optus networks found as "Virgin", but that doesn't seem to stop anything working.
