  • Huawei e586 - modem not found

I've purchased the unlocking software, and gone through all the troubleshooting steps, ie made sure the device is turned on, inserted new sim, rebooted several times, uninstalled all other dongle software, disabled the Huawei connection in Network Centre, tried a different port, etc.

But still, when I click on 'detect modem' in the DC unlocker, it says 'modem not found!'.

Any ideas for what my next step could be?

    Make sure drivers are installed.
    Use latest DC-Unlocker client software.
    Use Autodetect.
Make sure modem is not connected to internet.
Make sure modems connection software is turned off.
    Try restarting your computer.
    Try other computer.

Connection software should be installed - some drivers comes with it.
But make sure it is turned off when using DC-Unlocker.

Use of netbook was the problem

      Thanks for your suggestions.

I tried a different computer - a laptop instead of a netbook, and bingo, everything worked. The dongle is now unlocked!

      Thanks again

        E586 - Cant see in DC-Unlocker

Hi you say in your message you managed to unlock you E586.

When i connect mine to the laptop it only connects for charging by USB and as as a removable media device for when a memory card is inserted.

i havent managed to find any software drivers for the E586 and DC-Unlocker doesnt see any comm ports or USB in the drop down in order to search,.

Do you have a link to the Huwaei software needed?

        Many Thanks,

        Steve

Sorry, I can't help you. My dongle's software installed automatically onto the computer as soon as I plugged it in.

If you cannot detect modem, you should check this:
            Make sure drivers are installed.
            Use latest DC-Unlocker client software.
            Use Autodetect.
Make sure modem is not connected to internet.
Make sure modems connection software is turned off.
            Try restarting your computer.
            Try other computer.

Are you sure it's switched on?

I had another thought - are you sure you've switched it on?

Just because the green 'power' light is on doesn't actually mean that it's on. And if it's plugged in, then it won't switch on (or at least mine doesn't).

Try unplugging it from the computer or the wall, and pressing down the 'power' switch for 3 seconds. When it has booted itself up and has said 'welcome' etc, then try reconnecting it.

                Thanks

                Thanks for advice,

Yeah it's switched on, the management tool for mine doesn't install, you just use a web browser to browse to it and do the setup via that,so it doesn't install any drivers at all.

I've ordered a code from ebay instead, hopefully they'll deliver!

                Thanks again,

                Steve

Thanks, you say make sure drivers are installed. That's what I'm having trouble with and was the question I was asking.... Where does one get the drivers when they don't auto install?

If you can access to admin panel in your web browser, then I guess the drivers are ok.
Could you please try to do this:
Open network connections of your computer, find your modem there. There should be 2 devices of your router - one of them is Wifi. Disable it and try agian to detect with DC-Unlocker.
If still not found, try to do this:
Open network connections again, find your modem there. Right click > Properties > Internet (TCP/IP) > Properties.
                    IP: 192.168.2.1
                    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Ok > Ok. Try again to detect it with DC-Unlocker.
