can't unlock my phone

hi, i am using Huawei U8500, I am travelling in New Zealand now, using NZ TELECOM carrier, but i am getting no reception at places where i should get one, so i think i need to unlock my phone. i run the unlock the process, it says it's already unlocked, what's wrrong?

According to detect your phone is unlocked. Try to check the phone settings, maybe only 3G or 2G are selected. Maybe sim is not fully inserted.
