Software installed , internet path working ( not via E586 ) updated drivers , ISP software shutdown , no firewalls on , no AV installed . DC-unlocker runs fine , detects E586 , put the name and PW supplied in server details but no Unlock button ?? just greyed out .

Unlock button is disabled, because DC-Unlocker detected modems "SIM lock status: unlocked".
Is there other providers SIM card inserted in the modem? If not, then insert other providers (not original) SIM card and detect again.
Then Unlock button should be enabled.
Thanks for the fast response . I have tried this with a sim card from Telstra ( the device is on OPTUS ) and it shows unlocked with the telstra card in it . the custom APN is set up fine as i use same settings with the telstra sim card and all works fine ?

If you can use other providers SIM card with modem and DC-Unlocker shows "unlocked" when there is other providers SIM card inserted, then it means your modem was already unlocked or is not locked at all.
