  • Issues with E220

    Hi All,

Just bought a Vodafone Huawei E220 modem that is "supposed" to be unlocked ,but I can't get internet access, so looking for some help please.

    I bought a prepaid VirginBroadband sim card (Australia). If I used the standard Mobile Connect software, it shows 5 bars of strong signal and that it is the correct VirginBroadband network, but when I hit connect it always says;

"Connection to remote computer could not be established and port closed etc"

I've checked all my settings several times. Someone mentioned that it may not actually be unlocked? How can I find this out?

I installed the latest firmware E220 11.117.09.04.000. The vodafone lite connect software was originally removed so I thought perhaps reinstalling the latest version of that might work, but didn't.

I downloaded the DC Unlocker software, but when I scan for the modem data card it says nothing is found?? I've tried Auto & Manual scans of all the ports which is weird as the modem is recognized by XP when I plug it in. Haven't bought a credit yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just tried doing the scan with the dashboard softare closed down and it scanned OK.

Says it's unlocked, but it still won't connect.

You need use generic connection software and use configure profile APN, user and password from provider. If you see signal, then modem ok and unlocked.

Thanks. Installed generic Mobile Partner and removed VMC Lite.

Shows good signal, but keep getting Error 619 code: "Fails to connect to remote computer". Seems to fail that last authenicaton step when connecting.

Triple checked settings, will call ISP to confirm.

          All sorted out!!

Ended up installing the latest firmware, mobile partner dash, both from Huawei and got a system reset from my ISP.

Huawei is a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices.

For XP & Vista, the FW is the file that begins with HOST, and the dash (generic controller) is the file starting with UTPS.

So even though the modem was unlocked, VMC Lite software (dash) was another block within itself as it won't let you connect to another suppliers network. So NEVER install it as a work-around! Not sure if the original Huawei Mobile Connect dash was an issue?

          Thanks again.
