  • Remove restrictions on number of WiFi-users on Huawei E5832

Just purchased the 3G WiFi-modem Huawei E5832. From Telia in Denmark.

Before unpacking, I found out that Telia states it only allows ONE (!) user to connect via WiFi at a time. So much for the router function...

My question is : Will applying DC-unlocker remove (the Telia imposed) restrictions on number of WiFi-users on Huawei E5832?

And I'm quite sure the restrictions are imposed by Telia (I guess via customized firmware???), as other suppliers in Denmark allow the modem to connect from 3 to 5 users at a time via WiFi. I belive I've even seen claims of it's ability to serve up to 16 simultaneous users.

No, you have update firmware after unlocking, www.dc-files.com has updates for this. Restore defaults before upgrading.

OK, thanks for the info! A couple of questions :

      1) What is the difference between "Firmware update" and "'Firmware update (enabled Webinterface)" - can't find a lot of info on that page.. ;-) ( www.dc-files.com/files/huawei/modems/E5832/ )

      2) On same page, I can understand that the download "Cardlock Unlock Tool" is what I need, to apply the unlock (!). But what is the "Dashboard" download? I really can't find any info as to what that does.

      Thanks for you help..

        One more question :

        3) When you write "Restore defaults before upgrading", what do you mean?

I would think that applying the unlock software, would reset the modem? If not, I've anyway not yet unpacked the modem, so I guess it would be in a default state..

And while we're at it - do I have to install the modem and the software completely, and only then apply the unlock?. Or do you think I can hit 'cancel' when inserting the modem for the first time, and get right to unlocking and firmware upgrading?

And just for the record - I guess there is an item in the installed software, that allows me to 'Restore defaults'.

          1. The "Firmware update" didn't work on by Virgin Au supplied E5832, failed with unknown error, the "'Firmware update (enabled Webinterface)" worked.

          2. The "Cardlock Unlock Tool" is for entering the unlock code if supplied by your modem supplier/ISP.

The "Dashboard" is the generic connection software & drivers on the modem's virtual CD.

You have to connect modem to computer & log into the User interface http://192.168.1.1, 'Restore defaults' is in System.

Unlocking the modem doesn't resets just enables it to be used with other providers.

Yes you have to install the modem and the software completely, under-wise dc-unlocker won't be able to detect it & unlock it. You won't be able to upgrade the firmware or dashboard if you don't.

              OK, thanks again!

I'll try to perform the action within 1-2 days, and let everyone know if I'm now able to have more users on WiFi.

Looking forward to beat Telias completely ridiculous restriction!!!

I have upgraded the firmware but it still restricts the number of users

I have a huawei e5832, I upgraded the firmware but it still has the restriction. Does anyone know how to get rid of this restriction? I have a unit from Virgin Mobile Australia.

                  use this firmware

                  Hello people, I have virgin australia unit, install this firmware update, follow link here;

It allows 3 wifi devices to connect also adds much more features like access to firewall, port forwarding, adding new profiles if you have unlocked it from virgin and want to use orther carrier sim etc.

I have connected more by unlocking the Telnet interface and mucking around with unix scripts but very complex, so don't ask me, google it if you get as far as installing the new firmware and want more than 3.

This firmware support 3 users standard, if you cannot connect more than 1 I do not know what you do wrong. Use browser to connect to modem browser interface, login and look at "basic status" screen, it say how many wifi currently connected. It say 1 when you have 1 user? What happen when you try to connect 2?

I can connect 3 users. That's no problem. But I want to connect more.

This one. Your description is very similar to what I have.
