  • UMW190VW unlock problem

I have a Verizon Wireless usb modem UMW190. Today I purchased 10 credits to unlock the SIM card using DC Unlocker 2 Client 1.00.0764. The process went smoothly and I was told that the unlock was successfully.

I was very happy. However, VZAccess Manager showed the following error message for a T-mobile SIM card:

"VZAccess Manager has detected an unsupported SIM. Please insert a Verizon Wireless or a Vodafone SIM in your wireless device."

Apparently, my UMW190 is still locked. Could you please help me solve this problem? Thanks!

FYI, here is the result of auto detect:

    DC - Unlocker 2 Client 1.00.0764

    Detecting card :

    selection :
    manufacturer - PANTECH
    model - Auto detect (recommended)

    Found modem : UMW190VW
    Model : UMW190VW
    Firmware : W0190VWB222F.205

It seems that your connection software is branded by original provider. You will have to download unbranded connection software and then it will accept other providers SIM cards.

Gintas, thanks for your reply. Instead of VZAccess Manager, which connection software do you suggest for UMW190VW? Any preference?

Sorry, could not find any other connection manager on internet
I have the same Pantech UMW190VW, tried to unlock it and see what problems there might be.
The first thing, device did not appear in computer (it appeared as unknown device in Device Manager). Updating drivers does not help - windows cannot find the drivers. There is no drive created in My Computer, to give the folder to update drivers (when choosing update manually).
Then, I went to Verizon Wireless web site, and downloaded the VZAccess connection manager from there. Installed it, and the device is now recognized by computer.
Then I tied to unlock it with DC-Unlocker, everything was successful.
Now, I launch VZAccess connection manager, it finds the device without problems, finds the other provider and is able to connect to it. It does not ask me to insert Verizon Wireless or a Vodafone SIM in it.

So, it might be that your device was not unlocked. You should try to unlock it again with DC-Unlocker.
Otherwise, you should uninstall your current connection software and install the one that I installed too. Here is the link: http://www.vzam.net/download/downloa...?productid=710

Thanks for your help, Gintas. As you suggested, I made several attemps, but no success.

First, I tried to unlock my UMW190VW again using dc-unlocker. I was told "already unlocked".

Second, I made a fresh installation of VZAccess Manager on another laptop. However, the problem is still same.

Third, I inserted several different SIM cards from AT&T and T-mobile and still got the same error message.

Because you don't have problems to use other vendor's sim card, I am wondering if we have the same version of UMW190VW. The attached is my hardware and software information from "About VZAccess Manager...".

Please let me know your thought. Thanks

Your software information from "About VZAccess Manager..." is the same as mine here.

What card do you use? SIM or USIM? It might be that the connection software does not recognize SIM card.

Also, can you try other SIM cards?

How about your firmware/hardware version? Here is mine:

                Firmware: W0190VWB222F.205
                Hardware: REV_03

My cards are just normal SIM. I have two working SIM cards from AT&T and T-mobile. They both subscribed 3G service, but cannot be accepted by UMW190VW. I also tried an expired SIM card from China Telecom and still got same error.

BTW, I am in the United States if it is relevant.

Firmware and hardware are the same here.
Is there any possibility for you to try non-USA SIM card? Except that one expired from China.

I have no other non-USA SIM card. The current problem is that UMW190VW doesn't accept any non Verizon SIM card. It is nothing to do with if the SIM card is still in service or has network subscription.

However, your UMW190VW has no such problem. It's very strange. I will reinstall Windows 7 to see what's going on. It may be irrelevant. But I will do it to eliminate the reason of software conflict.

Could you please check the unlock log of my UMW190VW in your server? So that we can make sure it is acturally unlocked? That's the only problem I suspected.

I formatted the C: drive on my computer, made a fresh installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, reinstalled VZAccess Manager using your link at vzam.net, and palyed with different SIM cards.

But the problem persists and I receive same error messsage: "VZAccess Manager has detected an unsupported SIM. Please insert a Verizon Wireless or a Vodafone SIM in your wireless device."

Could you double check if my UMW190VW is actually unlocked on your end?

Could you write your username or modem imei number? Then we would be able to check, if unlock is done from server side.

Yes, according to server, unlock is done without problems.

Your UMW190 is unlocked, but use of VZAccess Manager is not straight forward. Inspekt this link please http://netobzor.org/forum/index.php?...4&topic=2045.0 . Since its in Russian use google translate.
