  • Unlocking ZTE Z223

A couple of years ago, I successfully used DC-Unlocker to unlock two AT&T ZTE Z223 phones, so that my wife and I could use them with local SIMs on occasional trips to Europe. The devices have recently died, one after my wife ran it through a washing machine (!) and the other spontaneously, and we have bought two identical new ones to replace them. This model is no longer shown as supported for unlocking, though the very similar Z221 and Z222 models are listed. Can they still be unlocked, and, if so, how many credits are needed per phone?

Can you detect this device this device by dc-unlocker? If device would be detected, maybe we would be able to make it supported and unlock.

Yes and no! After following your procedure for loading the drivers (connect to the USB port via the dongle with a 'foreign' SIM inserted), dc-unlocker reports that it finds an Applications port at port 5 and a Diagnostics port at port 6, but that it can't find the phone. I was able to unlock it via the screen/keypad interface with a code supplied by another vendor, but I would still like to enable normal USB communications to do things like upload ringtones and read and edit contacts on my PC, which it looks as if AT&T has modified the interface to prevent. Any suggestions about how to do that would be appreciated (and paid for, if the use of dc-unlocker is involved!).

First check for ports in device manager, then try to enter them manually in dc-unlocker software after selecting model as unknown manually from the list. The ntry to do detection.

That works! Unlocker reports: Detecting phone :

          selection :
          manufacturer - ZTE phones
          model - _Unknown ZTE phone_

          Selected Applications port COM4
          Selected Diagnostics port COM6

          Found Phone : V1
          Model : _Unknown ZTE phone_
          IMEI : ***************
          Firmware : ATT_AM_Z223V1.0.6-S
          Compile date / time : Jan 12 2016 10:41:27
          Chipset : Qualcomm QSC6240
          User Lock Code : 0000

As I noted, I was able to unlock it, but regular 'Phone Companion' software cannot access it, and the software's manuals talk about 'enabling USB mode', using a settings option that I don't have. THat is what I am now trying to fix.

Sorry but we won;t be able to help on that as we specialize only in device unlocking, nothing else.
