Same Problem with Huawei U8160 unlock - What am I doing wrong?

Not sure if you can help, I think I've followed all the instructions but am wondering if I've missed a step or not got my phone in fast boot mode correctly.

I downloaded the drivers to my desktop (windows XP on laptop) from :

On the phone I held in -vol and pressed the power on, and the phone starts with a picture of an hour glass (is this the fast boot mode?).

Within Device manager the phone is detected as Android Device-Torres?

I then installed the drivers within windows and in device driver it changes to Android device-Android Composite USB device

I think that's the drivers connected successfully.
Are there any other steps required with the drivers?.

I then disconnected the phone and opened DC Unlocker client. I started the phone again in fast boot mode by holding the -volume key and the power button until the phone starts with a black screen and hour glass symbol. I connect the phone with USB.

Within the DC Unlocker client software, I have then selected the Huawei phones option and left autodetector on the model number.

I then hit the detect phone magnifying glass button

    It comes back with :

    DC - Unlocker 2 Client 1.00.0884

    Detecting phone :
    selection :
    manufacturer - Huawei phones
    model - Auto detect (recommended)

    Phone not found !

My phone is a vodafone 858 Smart / Huawei U8160
    imei 356652046192512

Can you advise me if you think I'm missing a step or not following the procedure step by step correctly?

    Hi vincentas,

    .... what a great fool I am/was!!!

That's it! Every thing works fine, so it took only a few minutes to unlock the phone,
... last night it took 3 hours ... being blind ;-)

At least, thanks a lot, you did a great job.

    Tom

Need to detect as Huawei phones, not huawei modems.
Also, follow these instructions step by step: http://www.dc-unlocker.com/huawei_ph...lock_tutorials

Just press vol - and power on, then the phone will freeze, connect it to the computer, start dc-unlock, press find phone, buy some credits, press unlock, wait 5-10 seconds. Done.

It seems, sometimes it's just not good to press the vol + button. Only vol - and power on.

    Great software, thanks!
Yes, you are right. Last time you entered firmware update mode, not fast boot, thats why you were unable to detect.

    Hello!

Unfortunately, I have some problems too unlocking the U8160 (actually the Vodafone 858).
The driver is installed, and once I got the dc-unlocker software to find a Huawei phone. But as it was detected as "U8150" and I wasn't not sure if that is correct, I once again turned the phone off.
Now, whenever I'm pushing the three buttons it gets into "firmware updating" mode and shows an error:
    -----
    Firmware update
    Step 1/2
    Unpacking
    Update failed
    -----
THEN the phone hangs, but is not recognized by windows; the battery must be removed to turn it off.

So, how can I get the phone to hang "correctly"? I am absolutely sure I am pressing the right buttons, as 1) it once worked and 2) the combination vol +, vol - and power on is described as the method for firmware update (seen at modaco).

When removing the sd card and pressing the three buttons, the phone isn't starting at all. It only shows a screen with kind of purple color, neither really frozen, nor alive. ;( (Win 7 doesn't recognize the phone then.)

I tought there were some erraneous files on the sd card, so I formated it. But then again only the firmware update mode (with error) comes up.

Firmware is V17 (German - hence my bad English *g*) but I didn't find any newer firmware.

Could anyone out there be so kind and help me - where to get newer firmware or getting behind the firmware update error mode.

    Thanks in advance!
