  • K5008-Z driver issue after dc-unlocker auto-detect

I have a Vodafone K5008-Z and I was trying to use DC-Unlocker to identify the modem to see if it is equivalent to a particular ZTE 4G/LTE modem like the MF823.

However running the Auto detection in DC-unlocker seems to have broken the modem (hopefully temporarily) as now it won't install itself automatically on any PC. A "new hardware found" dialog comes up three times for "ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM" whether I insert it into the XP PC I ran DC-unlocker on or a 64-bit Win7 machine.

In my Device Manager I have 3 of these "ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM" devices listed as Other Devices. Uninstalling the drivers doesn't resolve the issue.

How can I restore my K5008-Z back to working order? What has happened to it?

    Thanks

    Gerry

Do you still have original modem connection software installed? If so, open it and there should be drivers folder. Try manually update these unknow device with driver from that folder.

Unfortunately I uninstalled the Vodafone software in my efforts to resolve the issue. A bit dumb in hindsight. Of course now I can't re-install from the modem as it's no longer recognised. I downloaded the latest Vodafone Mobile Broadband software from vodafone - it has driver folders for K3520Z and K4305Z, neither of which are accepted by the Update Driver procedure.

I've tried the "Check for software updates" option, but it just says the software is up to date.

What has happened to the modem to stop it auto-installing itself?

After you connect modem to computer, do you see cd-rom in my computer for this modem?

No - nothing under DVD/CD-ROM drives in Device Manager or as a CD drive in My Computer. Just the 3 other devices all listed as ZTE CDWMA Technologies MSM.

Try to download this software and install it :

Then use its driver folder to update the unknown devices that you see in device manager.

I have the same issue and reinstalling the original software from Vodafone don't help! Once dc-unlocker try to read the data card using autodetect, the data card becomes damaged and when connected to any PC (tested on 4 PC) the storage can't be accessed, drivers faile to install and there is no solution. I expect professional support from DC-Unlocker about how to fix our damaged modems!

You must install drivers (or software from link on forum) and then you can detect with dc unlocker, and disable diagnostic port.

I have installed Vodafone Mobile Broadband from:

Next I connected my ZTE K5008-Z data card and tried to update the drivers from the Drivers folder but there is only one ZTE driver folder for K3520Z and there are no compatible drivers inside.
What other drivers to install and from where? in order to proceed with your suggestion?

Have you tried to apply drivers manually since your device should appear in device manager with "!" or "?" signs.

Yes, I have tried to apply drivers manually but without success. Before damage it with dc-unlocker, my device was used without any issue with drivers ok and internet connection working ok. Please let me have working solution to revive my data card.

Please provide hardware IDs info from details tab of those lines in device manager that belongs to your modem.

Original poster here, just to tie up the loose end of my experience with the K5008-Z and DC-Unlocker. I let some knowledgeable folks (mobile broadband router development team) have a look at the modem and they couldn't resurrect it. I returned it to Vodafone and they confirmed that the K5008-Z modem was damaged beyond repair and fortunately replaced it for me. So something in the auto-detect process causes unrepairable damage to this modem.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news vendorgsm, but hopefully you can get a replacement from Vodafone if it's still under warranty.

I prefer to not retrun it to Vodafone because theykeep it 2 weeks on their service and there is a chance to return it as out of warranty if they detect that was damaged by user software. I still hope that DC-Unlocker support team can reverse their fault and will give me real working solution as at the moment there is no option to have the modem connected to my PC.
